Banana Split Upside Down Cake

Ingredients

½ cup mixture of finely chipped peanuts and pecans
¼ c. Land of Lakes Butter
½ c. dark brown sugar
1/2 T. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 bananas, split in half, long ways
Sift: 2c. flour,1/2 t. baking powder,3/4 t. baking soda,1/2 t. salt
½ c. Crisco
1 ½ c. sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
¼ c. buttermilk
¾-1 c. mashed bananas

Step 1: Preheat the oven 350 degrees. Grease a 9x9 inch cake pan.
Step 2: In a small pan, melt ¼ c. butter, ½. C. dark brown sugar, and ½ T. milk. Bring to a boil for 45 seconds and then add 1 tsp. vanilla.
Step 3: Now pour this into the bottom of the9x9 in. cake pan. Sprinkle the nuts all along the edges. Place the banana halves on the brown sugar mixture in the bottom of the pan, cut side down.
Step 4: Next, sift together the flour, baking soda and powder, and salt.
Step 5: In a mixing bowl, put the Crisco, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Beat for 1 ½ minutes on medium.
Step 6: Add 1/4 c. buttermilk.
Step 7: Now, alternate adding into the mixing bowl, first the sifted flour ingredients, then the mashed bananas, until they are mixed into the batter.
Step 8: Pour the batter over the bananas into the baking pan and bake for 35-40 minutes or until brown and the tooth pick comes out clean from the center of the cake.
Step 9: Cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes and then flip out of the pan into a cooling rack and let the cake finish cooling. But I recommend eating a hot piece of cake before it cools! Delicious!
